I. Project Overview

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is one of the world's most valuable publicly traded companies and is currently one of the most widely tokenized U.S. stocks in the RWA (Real World Assets) sector. As of this writing, AAPL is trading at around $325 per share, with a total market capitalization of approximately $4.5 trillion and average daily trading value in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
The on-chain segment is considerably smaller. According to CoinMarketCap, the total tokenized market cap of AAPL is approximately $150 million, with 24-hour on-chain trading volume ranging between $7 million and $9 million. The largest of these products is AAPLX, part of the xStocks series issued by Backed Finance, with both circulating and total supply at approximately 500,869 tokens, a market cap of about $146 million, roughly 15,000 holder addresses, and a CMC ranking near #230.
It is important to note that AAPL itself is not a crypto project. The “project” examined in this report comprises two layers: Apple Inc. equity as the underlying asset and the on-chain tokenized products built around it.

II. Project Introduction

Apple Inc. was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, and went public in 1980. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, the company has approximately 164,000 full-time employees, and its business spans consumer electronics, software, and services.
In terms of financial performance, Apple generated $416.16 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2025, which ended on September 27, 2025, representing an increase of approximately 6.4% year-over-year and setting a new record. Growth accelerated significantly in fiscal year 2026: Q1 FY2026 (ended December 27, 2025) revenue was $143.8 billion, up 16% year-over-year, with diluted earnings per share of $2.84; Q2 FY2026 (ended March 28, 2026) revenue was $111.2 billion, up 17% year-over-year, with net income of $29.6 billion, diluted earnings per share of $2.01, and a gross margin of 49.3%. All regional markets achieved double-digit growth. Strong demand for the iPhone 17 series and record performance in Apple's Services business were the primary growth drivers.
On the on-chain side, tokenized U.S. stocks gained momentum in 2025. Backed Finance's xStocks series is backed 1:1 by the underlying shares and provides on-chain equity exposure to non-U.S. users. AAPLX is one of the most closely watched products in the series.

III. Products and Technology

Apple's product portfolio is centered on the iPhone and extends to the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro. Its software ecosystem includes operating systems such as iOS and macOS, while its services include the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple Pay. Its technological moat stems from its in-house Apple Silicon chips and the ecosystem stickiness created by the vertical integration of hardware and software.
WWDC in June 2026 marked a pivotal turning point. Apple announced expanded collaboration with Google, with the next-generation Siri set to be powered by Gemini and delivered as a standalone app featuring cross-app actions, on-screen awareness, and an understanding of personal context. Apple also unveiled its next-generation operating systems, including iOS 27. This marked a shift from an “in-house first” approach toward a hybrid AI strategy combining internal development with external models.
The structure of the tokenized products is relatively straightforward: the issuer holds an equivalent number of underlying AAPL shares through regulated custodians and mints tokens on-chain at a 1:1 ratio. Smart contracts handle issuance and transfers, while custodians provide Proof of Reserves. AAPLX is primarily issued on Solana and is also available on networks such as Arbitrum. It can be traded on centralized exchanges and DEXs and used as collateral in DeFi applications. Minting and redemption are subject to KYC requirements, while secondary transfers are relatively unrestricted.

IV. Economic Model

It is important to distinguish between two fundamentally different models.
At the corporate level, Apple has a well-established capital return framework, including quarterly cash dividends. In Q2 FY2026, the company increased its quarterly dividend by 4% to $0.27 per share, while the board authorized a new share repurchase program of up to $100 billion. Ongoing buybacks have reduced the number of outstanding shares over time and have been an important driver of earnings-per-share growth.
At the token level, AAPLX does not have tokenomics in the conventional sense: there is no pre-mine, vesting schedule, governance token, or protocol incentive mechanism. Supply is determined entirely by market demand. When new tokens are minted, the issuer acquires an equivalent number of underlying shares; upon redemption, the tokens are burned, and the backing shares are released. As a result, there is no fixed maximum supply, while circulating supply generally corresponds to total supply. The token price is pegged to the underlying stock, with typically only a small premium or discount between the two. When on-chain liquidity is insufficient, the spread widens.

V. Team and Investors

Apple is currently undergoing its most significant management transition in fifteen years. Tim Cook has announced that he will step down as CEO on September 1, 2026, to become Executive Chairman of the Board, focusing on global policy and external relations. He will be succeeded by John Ternus, former Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. The CFO is Kevan Parekh, and the head of software engineering is Craig Federighi.
Apple's ownership is highly dispersed and primarily held by large index funds and institutional asset managers. It is a major constituent of leading indices such as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100, meaning passive fund flows can have a significant impact on its short-term trading dynamics.
On the token issuer side, xStocks is issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, registered in Jersey. Kraken is a major centralized exchange distribution partner, with platforms such as Bitrue and Gate also listing the product. Institutions such as Ondo and Dinari offer their own versions of tokenized Apple shares, creating a multi-issuer market.

VI. Roadmap

Key upcoming milestones for Apple include the rollout of iOS 27 and the next-generation Siri in fall 2026, the completion of the CEO transition on September 1, and the company's annual fall product launch cycle. A foldable iPhone has attracted considerable market speculation, although Apple has not officially confirmed the product.
The pace of development on the tokenization side is equally rapid. Kraken and Backed have already listed 100 xStocks and aim to expand the lineup to more than 500 by the end of 2026. The U.S. DTCC plans to launch a limited production pilot for tokenized securities in July 2026, with a broader commercial rollout expected later in the year. Nasdaq's proposed rules for tokenized securities remain under regulatory review. These developments will determine whether tokenized U.S. stocks can evolve from niche products into mainstream financial infrastructure.

VII. Risks and Opportunities

The main risks to Apple's fundamentals include the investment required to close the gap in AI, its heavy dependence on the Chinese market and supply chain, global antitrust and regulatory scrutiny, and uncertainty surrounding search-related revenue-sharing arrangements within its Services business. The CEO transition and AI strategy realignment also introduce additional execution risk.
Tokenization introduces a distinct set of risks that warrant particular attention: first, issuer and custodian credit risk, as the token's value ultimately depends on the solvency of centralized institutions; second, regulatory risk, as xStocks is not registered with U.S. securities regulators and is unavailable to U.S. users, while policy changes across jurisdictions could directly affect product availability; third, liquidity risk, as the $150 million tokenized market cap is negligible compared with the underlying asset's market cap of roughly $4 trillion, and limited market depth can increase slippage and widen spreads; and fourth, price divergence risk, as on-chain trading continues around the clock while U.S. equity markets are closed, allowing premiums and discounts to widen when arbitrage channels are unavailable.
On the opportunity side, the core value of tokenization lies in reducing geographic, time-zone, and account-access barriers, enabling non-U.S. users to gain fractional exposure to blue-chip stocks and use tokenized assets in DeFi lending and settlement applications. If the tokenization initiatives of traditional market infrastructure providers such as DTCC and Nasdaq progress smoothly, the sector could see substantial improvements in regulatory clarity and liquidity.

VIII. Conclusion

AAPL is an asset with exceptionally strong fundamentals, although its on-chain narrative remains in its early stages. Apple generates robust cash flows and has a well-established capital return framework. The company returned to double-digit growth in the first two quarters of FY2026 while navigating two major transitions: an AI strategy realignment and a CEO succession. Its tokenized version offers a new route to exposure, with 1:1 backing by the underlying shares, 24/7 trading, and DeFi composability. However, its tokenized market cap of approximately $150 million and limited on-chain liquidity indicate that the product remains in the early stages of market validation.
For researchers, AAPL's on-chain development provides a useful measure of the maturity of the broader tokenized stock sector. The quality of the underlying asset is already well established; the key questions are whether issuance structures, regulatory frameworks, and liquidity infrastructure can develop at the same pace.
