U.S. Market: Oil and Rates Are Reasserting Their Influence

Market Pulse

Ahead of Monday’s U.S. open, the latest completed session remains October 23. The S&P 500 fell 0.52%, the Dow lost 1.23%, the Nasdaq slipped 0.21% and the Russell 2000 declined 0.29%, while the VIX rose to 19.45. Elevated oil prices have returned inflation and rate pressure to the center of market pricing. A durable technology rebound now depends increasingly on major platforms showing that AI investment can produce sustainable earnings, not simply larger capital budgets.

Hotcoin Movers: Moderate Spot Rotation, Concentrated Perpetual Volatility

Hotcoin Asset Movers

At the 17:20 CST Hotcoin snapshot, MRNAB fell 6.80%, while SNXXB, BEB and INTWB gained 3.60%, 2.93% and 2.71% in spot trading. Perpetual volatility was substantially larger: XPUSDT, EWZUSDT, NUUSDT and PBRUSDT each showed declines exceeding 20%. Crypto-linked U.S. equities also ended Friday weaker, led by MARA at -3.17% and COIN at -2.75%. The products use different measurement windows and leverage structures, so their moves should be evaluated separately.

Today’s Calendar: Monday Data Opens a Fed-and-Big-Tech Week

Today's Catalyst Calendar

Today’s agenda includes Verizon’s third-quarter results, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index and the Dallas Fed manufacturing survey. The larger volatility window arrives with Wednesday’s Federal Reserve decision, followed by advance GDP, PCE inflation and major technology earnings. Markets are becoming more selective: the AI narrative is now being tested against spending intensity, the timing of profit realization and the rate environment. If oil and Treasury yields remain elevated, upside in high-valuation assets may stay constrained even when headline growth is resilient.
