NFT is a digital record on the blockchain that represents the ownership and authenticity of media.NFT is not only a multimedia file (e.g. Gif. or Jpeg.), - it is also a public record that contains historical information associated with the media. In this case, the NFT is more like a list of ownership and a certificate of authenticity for a painting.

NFTs are different from interchangeable assets, such as $20 bills, stocks, or other units, which are interchangeable without changing their value. Unlike a $20 that can be replaced with another $20, the unique qualities of an NFT make each NFT unique and that uniqueness can be verified.

How does NFT work?

NFT, along with the blockchain network on which it exists, employs the concepts of cryptography and computer science to securely maintain and share information. Today transactions can be made directly between people without the need for centralized oversight and verification. Blockchain uses asymmetric cryptography with hashing to share encrypted information across a network of distributed users. This information is stored in "blocks" and each new block is "concatenated" with the information in the previous block. This method of concatenating each new block with the previous block gives the message itself a complete audit trail and allows it to be traced back to its original state. This method also makes it easy for the network to recognize if a block of information has been tampered with in some way. Rather than maintaining these chained blocks of information at a single address, the blockchain distributes copies of this information across a network of computers, each of which is individually called a node. The computer program used by the blockchain, called a consensus algorithm, ensures that the network and the shared participating nodes can agree on the same information. This gives the blockchain its defining characteristic.

NFT is a combination of smart contracts, promises and programmed rules that enforce the blockchain. The smart contract behind NFT serves as tamper-proof evidence that the NFT media was created by a specific person or organization. It also proves the rightful owner of the object. Ultimately, the deterministic rules in NFT smart contracts allow people to avoid oversight by centralized intermediaries and avoid making mistakes or being defrauded.

Public chains such as Ethereum and Solana are some of the blockchain platforms that perform smart contracts and support the creation and maintenance of NFT. While each blockchain functions differently, they all provide a decentralized, distributed, and immutable way to maintain a shared record of truth. Blockchain platforms that execute smart contracts for some of them support the creation and maintenance of the NFT. While each blockchain functions differently, they all provide a decentralized, distributed, and immutable way to maintain a shared record of truth.

What are the uses of NFT?

Art and collectibles: almost any digital file can be an NFT, but the most common use case today is for collectible works, such as art. Before the advent of NFT, ownership of digital art or collectibles was nearly impossible to trace online and relied heavily on intermediaries, leaving people vulnerable to fraud. NFT further legitimizes digital art as a medium and valuable expression of modern culture. "Blue chip" NFT (works by digital artists such as CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Beeple) have set sales price records not only for NFT marketplaces, but also for traditional art auction houses.

COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP: Many NFT collections offer unique real-world benefits, rewards, or experiences that create additional value for their holders. Those who hold NFT-specific collections often connect with each other, fostering relationships as well as sharing their passion for the program, which also gives them a deeper sense of community membership. Additionally, some DAOs gather together to share topics they find culturally significant, such as fractional ownership and collective stewardship in the NFT.

MUSIC INDUSTRY: Musicians are using NFT to reduce the influence of record labels and the broader music industry, helping artists mediate and quantify their relationships with fans. Just as unique images can be put on the blockchain as NFTs, unique audio clips can be created, traded and stored on the blockchain as NFTs for fans to own and enjoy. Dozens of musical artists across genres and generations, including Kings of Leon and 3LAU, are utilizing NFTs to cultivate new experiences in music and offset their reliance on music industry intermediaries.

Gaming: Blockchain-based platforms such as Decentraland, Axie Infinity, and The Sandbox utilize NFT to provide players with unique gaming experiences and reward players with items of real-world value. In these games, NFT can represent virtual lands, characters, abilities, or items with different attributes and bazaar values. The cryptocurrencies native to NFT blockchain games are a key part of the game's economy, and their gameplay achievements can be used to reward players with items of real-world value.NFT allows players to take control of their gameplay achievements and receive customized rewards of real-world value.

DeFi: NFT also has an innovative use case related to the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) protocol as a way to keep ownership untampered with without a middleman. Important financial documents such as proof of ownership of a piece of land or business' tax returns can be created as NFTs and used in the DeFi protocol to execute peer-to-peer financial transactions. In addition to the proof of ownership and authenticity of the use case, NFTs can also be used as collateral for the user to borrow money. Both traditional lending services and blockchain-based lending services are exploring how to utilize the value of NFTs to fund new financial products and services.

Metaverse and Web3: NFT is rapidly becoming a fundamental part of the next generation of the Internet, allowing for a more immersive online experience through NFT's unique ownership properties. NFT has the potential to enable a more decentralized and anonymous blockchain-based Internet architecture, often referred to as Web3. NFT shows full potential in these areas and has the opportunity to play a key role in the subsequent development of Web3 and the metaverse. Many believe that art is just the first of many domains to be revolutionized by NFT, and that other use cases such as e-commerce, land ownership, and even personal identity will soon follow.

Proof of Attendance: the Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) is an open source project that uses NFT to track participation in real-world events. After providing a simple badge design and event-related metadata (such as event name, location, and date), POAP can be distributed to create a tamper-proof digital participation record that is easy to share and verify. POAP enables event organizers to provide a more personalized experience for their community. It also has the potential to expand into other areas, such as querying and tracking credentials from academic institutions and professional organizations.

TRENDING: From luxury brands to fast fashion powerhouses, companies around the world are exploring the power of NFT. Some prestigious brands are launching NFT clothing lines for the meta-universe, while others, such as Louis Vuitton, are developing NFT branded collection games. NFT deepens the connection with customers while putting the spotlight on inspiring new artists, and fashionistas like Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Nike, and Adidas are utilizing the power of NFT to create and lead new trend-setting experiences.
