1.Abstract

Kite is an EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain designed for the emerging Agentic Web, enabling AI agents to operate as trusted economic participants. The project provides foundational infrastructure for identity management, payments, permission control, and auditability, allowing autonomous agents to execute, transact, and govern within the digital economy.

Kite’s core innovation is the SPACE framework, built around native stablecoin payments, programmable constraints, and low-cost micropayments, achieving sub-100 ms latency and economically viable high-frequency transactions. The KITE token powers network access, staking, governance, and AI service fees, supporting long-term value accrual.

Backed by a strong founding team, reputable institutional investors, and a clear roadmap, Kite is well-positioned to become a key infrastructure layer at the intersection of AI and Web3. Key risks lie in ecosystem adoption, technical complexity, and regulatory uncertainty.

2.Background and Vision

As generative AI evolves, it is shifting from passive response tools to autonomous agents capable of execution and coordination. This transformation is expected to drive a new Agentic Economy with substantial growth potential in the coming years.

The current internet and financial infrastructure remain human-centric, creating major limitations:

  • Identity and permission systems are not designed for autonomous agents

  • Existing payment rails are costly, slow, and unsuitable for agent-based use cases

  • There is no verifiable framework for trust, audit, and compliance

Kite aims to build the foundational infrastructure for autonomous agents, enabling them to securely and efficiently participate in the digital economy with full-cycle capabilities—from execution to settlement to governance.

3.Project Overview: What Is Kite?

Kite is a sovereign, agent-native Layer-1 blockchain designed for the Agentic Economy. It provides agent identity, native stablecoin settlement, access control, and audit capabilities, while maintaining EVM compatibility for developers.

Its core framework, SPACE, consists of:

  • Stablecoin-native payments: Optimized for real-time, low-cost stablecoin settlement

  • Programmable constraints: On-chain rules that define and limit agent behavior

  • Agent-first authentication: A three-tier identity model enabling agents to act independently under verifiable identities

  • Compliance-ready audit trails: Built-in traceability to support transparency and regulatory oversight

  • Economically viable micropayments: Ultra-low-cost transactions enabling scalable agent-to-agent coordination

Kite can be viewed as a settlement and governance infrastructure for AI agents—a critical building block for the next generation of AI-powered digital networks.

4.Core Mechanisms and Architecture

Kite’s technical design ensures agents can operate reliably, efficiently, and securely.

  • Three-Tier Identity Model (User → Agent → Session):
Users hold root permissions and can create multiple agents; agents receive delegated authorization; sessions provide short-term, revocable access. This structure keeps agent actions traceable and controllable.

  • State Channels and Micropayment Rails:
These enable high-frequency, low-value transactions with sub-100 ms latency and fees as low as $0.000001 per transaction, supporting streaming and conditional payments for real-time coordination.

  • Programmable Constraints and Revocation-Based Safety:
Agent budgets, permissions, and behavioral rules are programmable and enforced on-chain. All actions are revocable and auditable, reducing risks from uncontrolled agent behavior.

  • Protocol Compatibility and Extensibility:
Kite supports native agent-coordination protocols such as x402, A2A, and AP2, and is compatible with OAuth 2.1 and DID standards, ensuring seamless integration with both Web2 and Web3 ecosystems.

Value Accrual Mechanisms

  • Network participation and access: Modules and participants must lock KITE to activate functions and interact with the network

  • AI service fees: Agent activity and service usage generate fees, creating buy-side pressure for KITE

  • Staking and governance: KITE is used for staking, governance voting, and resource allocation decisions

The model emphasizes long-term alignment and sustainable value capture rather than short-term inflationary rewards.

6.Team and Funding

Kite is led by an experienced team with deep expertise across AI, blockchain, and payments.

  • Chi Zhang, Co-Founder & CEO — PhD in AI from UC Berkeley; former lead product developer at Databricks

  • Scott Shi, Co-Founder & CTO — previously built real-time AI infrastructure at Uber

  • Additional team experience spans Coinbase, PayPal, Uber, UIUC, and Princeton

The project has raised USD 33 million from leading investors, including PayPal Ventures, General Catalyst, and Coinbase Ventures, reflecting strong institutional confidence.

7.Market Positioning and Competitive Landscape

Kite operates at the intersection of AI, blockchain, and payment infrastructure, positioning itself as an early leader in agent-native blockchain architecture.

Competitors fall into two broad categories:

  • General-purpose blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana, which are powerful but not agent-native

  • AI-focused chains such as Tempo, which share a similar vision but lack standardized payment and governance frameworks

The Agentic Economy remains nascent but is expected to expand rapidly. Kite benefits from early positioning, technical clarity, and institutional backing.

8.Risks and Challenges

Key risks include:

  • High technical complexity requiring long-term validation

  • Uncertain speed of developer and ecosystem adoption

  • Regulatory challenges related to AI services and crypto payments

  • Token value capture dependent on network scale and service demand

9.Conclusion and Outlook

Kite operates at the convergence of AI and Web3, with potential to become a foundational infrastructure layer for the Agentic Web. Its SPACE framework, stablecoin-native design, programmable permissions, and experienced team provide strong competitive differentiation.

Overall, Kite presents a clear long-term vision with substantial industry relevance. Although still in its early stages—with adoption and ecosystem growth as key variables—the project merits continued observation and strategic attention. Tracking agent adoption, module expansion, and real network activity will be crucial for assessing its long-term sustainability.
